FANCY FRIDAY FEATURING VISION CELLARS

We had the pleasure of meeting the winemaker "Mac" and his wife "Lil" a couple of months ago. This Husband and wife team are attached at the hip! They do EVERYTHING together. (see picture below) Proprietor and winemaker Edward Lee (affectionately known as Mac) McDonald is one of the few African-American winemakers in California. He grew up in Texas where his father was a moonshiner. His epiphany and experience with Burgundy wines led to him founding his label with his wife Lil in 1995 after spending 35 years working for Pacific Gas & Electric Co.. The first wines came from the 1997 vintage. HIs 2010 Las Alturas was served in THE WHITE HOUSE on Thursday, August 7th 2014!

Garys' Vineyard This vineyard is positioned in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey County. Due to the location and soil make-up this is an ideal area for growing award winning Pinot Noir fruit. The vineyard sits on southeast facing slopes and is approximately 25 miles from Monterey Bay. With the long growing season warm days and cool nights this makes an ideal area to grow Pinot Noir.
